In the north-east of Italy, in the region Piemonte 4 brothers from the Pinta Family are running a large pig farm which was established in 1964 by the father of the family. The company which is situated in Centallo (Cuneo) excist out of 3 different sites: location 1 is the mother company. At this site 1700 F1 sows are looked after by the brothers Sergio and Roberto.

These F1 sows of the Dutch Breeding Grouping Van Gennip Breeding Pigs, are being bred at location 2 under direct management by Pinta where another 520 Van Gennip grandparent sows are housed.
This second company (location 2), was build in 1998 and is completely supplied with Hotraco Agri BV equipment.

The company excist out of 2 seperate houses and was the first house in Italy with central exhaust system controlled by one control panel with 2 HDC computers.

With an adjustable AQC measuring and control unit the air is drawn into the rooms via a perforated sheet pile wall with rock wool insulation on top. Each room is controlled seperately by a MCC climate computer.

Mauro Pinta, who is calling the shots at the company says: I have great confidence in Hotraco because Hotraco Agri has proven to be a very capable and reliable company, from the time that the pen was put to the paper until the realization.
At these 2 sow farms the foundation is being laid for the production of eminent pork meat which eventually will be processed into Pharmaham. This process knows an awefull lot of rules and regulations.

So and only pigs which are born in Italy are to be used for Pharma, on top of that there are strict restrictions with regard to the feeding of these pigs (only pure cereals with no by-products are to be used). And the pigs must have reached an age of minimal 9 months before they are allowed to be slaughtered weighing approx. 165 –170 kgs. To check all the above, the animals do get a UBN number and a letter code which indicates the month of birth tattood on both hams when they are 4 to 5 weeks old.
According to Giusseppe Pinta the production of the right pigs for the Pharma industry is of big importance to the company. The most important criterea herefore are: firstly good genetic:. Pinta has found the right combination at the grandparent stock of Van Gennip Breeding Pigs from The Netherlands. Here they produce partially for their own F1 population
on the mother company as for the sale to various pig farmers in the region.

On a yearly basis approx. 3000 F1 gilts are produced by Pinta. These F1 gilts are insiminated with sperm of the Gorzagri C21 boar from Italy. The Van Gennip F1 sow is a very fertile and robust sow: 12 piglets which are born alive and with 24,5 weaned piglets per sow a year Pinta is very satisfied.
Secondly health is a very important issue. Giuseppe Pinta is very pleased with his choise for Dutch technology and Dutch know-how several years ago. Hotraco Agri has contibuted her share also. The fresh air in the pig houses reaches the animals with the right amount and at a dosed speed, so no draft can be developed. This can be confirmed by the non-moving spider webs in the house which turn out to be a very useful measuring-rod.
The Hotraco equipment has been working perfectly for many years now without any problems. And in case something should go wrong there is always the fifth brother (Giovanni) who is a veterinarian and always keeps a close eye on the health status of all the animals.
The Pinta brothers also produce their own feed which is produced at a forage plant built in 2003. Here approx. 100.000 kgs of feed is produced daily. 40% is intended for their own companies, the remaining 60% is sold to third parties.
