Sprouting is undesirable both during short and long term potato storage. Sprouting causes loss of weight and quality. Potatoes do not or hardly sprout at temperatures below 3 to 4 °C. However, for French fries and chips potato such a storage temperature is too low due to the accumulation of reducing sugars. Table potatoes are stored at lower temperatures, 4-5 °C, but a too low temperature influences the taste (sweetening).
Thanks to the arrival of new cold mist spraying techniques it is possible to adjust the dispensing cycle of the sprout controlling agents by means of the storage computer. With a cold mist spray, it is possible to optimally distribute sprout controllers such as "Talent" and sprout inhibitors like "Gro-Stop Innovator" in the storage location by means of the ventilation system. The storage computer has a complete setting for controlling the Cyclomatic, the Potatofog, and other devices.
