Bernd Trumann and his wife Ina run an agricultural farm of 300 ha. There are 70 ha of table potatoes of the variety Gunda, Elfe, Belana, Gala and Jelly. Another 30 ha of starch potatoes, 126 ha of grains, 80 ha of which are for multiplication, mainly barley. Another 24 ha of pasture ground for cattle.
There already was a potato storage of 1.200 tons for bulk potatoes, but with regard to the many varieties of table potatoes, box storage was a logical step. Therefore in 2008 they invested in a new storage of 2000 tons in boxes.

On the Lüneburger Heide, our dealer Erich Dittmer of Dittmer Umwelttechnik, is very successful in box storage with the Mooij Aspiration system.
In the pressure chamber, the air inlet hatches are placed above the air outlet hatches. The curved hoods ensure that the air blown out is not sucked in again. Depending on temperature, the inlet and outlet air are mixed. Then the air is blown through the humidifier pad to be sucked evenly through the boxes.

The pad humidifier ensures humidification and cooling by evaporation. The pad is almost as long as the pressure chamber and is mounted standing. This large area ensures a low speed of air over the pad so that no drops of water are sucked with the air from the pad. Thus potatoes are stored dry and cool, and yet humid. Thus there is less weight loss, less pressure spots resulting in a higher quality.
The pad humidifier functions simply with a water tank with an inlet and outlet. The water is pumped up from the tank by a submersible pump and a long duct with holes sprays the pad. The water not used returns to the tank.

The fans are equipped with frequency converters. Therefore the right amount of air can be chosen and there is a large energy cost reduction. By choosing lower revolutions per minute the drying of air and thus potatoes is less.
The Orion storage computer controls the right amount of air and temperature. Besides, the Orion calculates how dry and warm external air can be made suited for cooling by humidification. The Orion controls ventilation with humidification automatically.

The electrical installation was implemented by the home electrician of Bernd Trumann.
The assembly and commission of the Aspiration system was carried out by service engineers of Mooij's.
The sorting equipment next to the storage was also delivered by Dittmer Umwelttechnik. It became operational this fall.
